Q: Where are the fields & how are they assigned?

A: We have softball fields located throughout Nassau County. They are assigned by your team’s abilities and location of preference i.e.; (Eastern Nassau, Western Nassau).

Q: How many players are allowed on a roster?

A: You need a minimum of twelve (10) players on your roster to field a team and up to twenty (20) maximum. Take advantage of the 20-player roster, as you never know when you'll need reserves to fill-in.

Q: Do you have a level of play that meets my team’s experience?

A: We have different levels of play based on your team’s abilities.

Q: What is the playoff format?

A: All teams playing .500 ball or better will make the playoff’s. Most playoff’s will be set up as a best of three series. Exception, in the event of bad weather and the fact that we makeup games, we may not have the time or the fields to conduct a best of three series. If this happens we will have a single elimination game, winner takes all. (This is n extremely rare occasion, and not the norm).

Q: Does the league supply softballs?

A: Yes! Each team will receive one new softball per game as played by the home team.

Q: Does the league supply scorebooks?

A: Yes! We also supply a Scorebook to each captain participating in our Slow-Pitch Programs.

Q: Does the league supply bases?

A: No. Both managers are responsible for providing bases. If you need bases, you can buy a set of bases including a safety first-base direct from our League Store. Some of our league fields already have built in bases but it’s encourage that each team manager has a set of bases just in case.

Q: How many players bat in the lineup?

A: For Men's, you may bat any player on the roster up to 20. For Co-Ed, you may bat any player on the roster up to 20 alternating Male & Female. (One of the players on your roster can be a Designated Hitter DH)

Q: What softball governing body is South Shore Slo-Pitch Softball League affiliated with?

A: We have a relationship with USSSA (U.S. Specialty Sports Association). We also have a relationship with the ASA (Amateur Softball Association). Al our programs adhere to ASA rules and special League rules.

Q: How many players do you need to avoid a forfeit?

A: You May start a game with 8 (Eight) players, however, by the 3rd inning you must have and finish with 9 (nine) players.

Q: What types of leagues are available?

A: we offer adult and Co-Ed Slow Pitch softball leagues.

Q: What are the requirements to play in the Coed Softball program?

A: You must have a minimum of four (4) women & four (4) men on the field at (any position) at a time. The batting lineup must alternate between sexes. Please refer to the Co-Ed League Rules for further explanation.

Q: How do the umpires get paid?

A: Each team pays the umpire $22.50 per game at the field ($45 per double/header).

Q: Are team jerseys required?

A: No, However, since nearly all teams wear some sort of team jersey it is highly recommended that your team wear them as well. You can purchase customized jerseys from the League Office.

Q: How do I register my team for an upcoming league?

A: You can print our registration form from our website and by calling the League Office at 516-514-7264. you can also register by mail by sending your registration form with payment to our league office. Please register your team early to lock in your team's preferred time slot! Your schedule will be posted on the website approximately one week before opening day.

Q: If my team needs a particular day or week off can you arrange it around the schedule?

A: Yes. All we need is for you to let us know the day or week you need off at time of registration. However, if you want a day week off, there are no guarantees that the games will be made up. A makeup game will be scheduled if an opponent/location/field is available. You will not be penalized for any 'bye week' requested since teams qualify for the playoffs based upon 'winning percentage' regardless of the number of games played.

Q: I do not think I have enough players to form a team. Can you help?

A: Absolutely! Visit our renowned "Free Agency" which will allow you to safely and securely contact free agents from our list of available free agents to fill the void in your line-up.

Q: Will my team play within our level of play throughout the season and playoffs?

A: Yes. If your team plays at a certain level, then you will only play those levels through out the season. Our number one goal is for your team to have fun, so we work tirelessly to ensure the most even competition possible within the level you registered for.

Q: Does the league play on all holiday weekends?

A: There are no regular season games on Mothers Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day weekend. However, unless you ask for a BYE, you will be scheduled to play on Father’s Day.

Q: Am I required to post a forfeit bond or pay for (optional) insurance each season?

A: Each Softball team is required to post a forfeit bond upon first joining South Shore Slo-Pitch Softball League ($150). Once your team posts a forfeit bond, you will not be asked to post another (unless your team forfeits). The forfeit bond will be carried over each season. Liability insurance is already paid for by the league, if additional medical insurance is needed or wanted then it will be available for purchase through south Shore Slo-pitch Softball League.

Q: Is bunting or stealing permitted?

A: No bunting and stealing is not permitted in slow pitch softball.
